Temple History
This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. Thirumangai Azhwar has done Mangalasasanam. Thirumangai Azhwar has sung hymns ( 10 Pasurams ) to the Lord Sri Ramar in this temple.
In this temple Lord Valvil Ramar is in sayana thirukolam (Reclining Posture). This is one of the very few temples where Lord Rama is in reclining posture. Sri Bhoodevi Thayar gives dharshan along with Lord here. We can take dharshan of Anjaneyar, Jataayu and Lakshmanar next to Lord's Lotus feet. Lord Brahma gives dharshan from the Nabhi Kamalam of the Lord.
Utchavar Sri Ramar gives a beautiful dharshan along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi Thayars and is holding Shank and Chakra in his hands and not Bow and Arrow as usual in most of the Rama temples. Moolavar Sri Ramar is in Sayana Thirukolam (Reclining posture) which is a very rare form of Sri Rama. Moolavar and Utchavar Hemambujavalli Thayar also called as Potramaraiyal Thayar is in separate shrine in sitting posture.
When Lord Rama was serving his 14 years in the forest, Ravana abducted Devi Sita one day.
Jataayu who saw this, fought with Ravana to rescue Sita Devi but got brutally hurt by Ravana.
Before sacrificing his life, Jataayu narrated this to Lord Rama and Lakshmana. As per Jataayu's request Lord Rama did the last rites to Jataayu.
Sri Bhoomadevi is accompanying Lord here. As Lord did the last rights to Jataayu ( as a king from bird family) and rested here, this place got the name Pullambhoodhankudi.
Separate Shrine is present for Udhyoga Narasimhar in this temple . Here Lord Narasimhar is in yoga nilai with Yoga Mudhra as Yoga Narasimhar with Chathur Bhujam ( 4 hands) holding Shank and Chakra in two hands and with Yoga Mudhra in other two hands. Devotees pray to Lord Sri yoga Narasimhar here to overcome the obstacles in getting good job.
