Temple History

This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. Thirumangai Alwar, Periyalwar, Thirumazhisai Alwar have sung Mangalasasanam hymns to the Lord in this temple.

Lord is in Bhujanga Sayana thirukolam (reclining posture) and holding the appam pot by one hand. Lord got the name Appakudathan as lord is holding the appa kudam.

King Upamanyu was asked to feed one lakh people in this place inorder to get relieved from the curse he got from sage Durvasa. Lord Vishu himself came in disguise as an old brahmin and consumed all the food they prepared for the day. When the king politely asked if the Brahmin wants anything more Lord asked for a pot of appam ( appam is a sweet) and got it from the king. The king also got relieved from his curse.

In this Sthalam Lord has given dharshan to Sage Parasara and saved Sage Markandeya from fear of death and also relieved king Upari Siravasu from curses.

Prarthana Sthalam

Prarthanas and prayers are done here for child boon, for getting relief from adverse planetary aspects and other problems.
Tirumanjanam (Abhishegam) is performed to Lord and vastras are offered to Lord.
