Temple History
This temple is more than 1100 years old. 330 million deities (muppathu mukkodi devargal) have established(Prathistai) Ranganathaswamy's idol here in this temple.
In this temple, Lord Ranganathaswamy is in the standing posture along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi thayars. In this temple Sri Ranganatha swamy is wearing arumbu malai in his neck. Even today every night, Pooja things and fresh flowers for pooja is kept inside the temple garbagraham before closing the temple and it is believed that the Devathas do pooja here to the Lord every night.
This is the only one Vaishnava sthalam where Chola King Raja Raja Cholan had worshipped Lord Vishnu after which he was blessed with a child who is Rajendra Cholan.
There is a separate Shrine to Sri Baktha Anjaneyaswamy ( Siriya Thiruvadi ).
The king Raja Raja Chola has also worshipped Baktha Anjaneyaswamy in this sthalam for his health and for dosha nivarthi. Anjaneyar in this sthalam has three eyes ( Tri Nethram) , the third eye is in the forehead. Here Anjaneyaswamy gives dharshan to bakthas as a varaprasadhi.
We can also take dharshan of twelve Alwars , Devi Andal , Srimath Ramanujacharyar , Manavaala Maamunigal and Garudalwar in this temple. Periyalwar is in Gajavahanam.
Dhanur mashya pooja is done here in a grand way and daily prasadams are distributed to devotees. Karthigai Deepotchavam , Vaikunda Ekadashi , Pongal (Shankaranthi ) , Tamil New Year are some of the special poojas and festivals celebrated in this temple.
